Finding the forests
Earth Analytics India is using radar-based satellite data processed by sarmap SA to provide timber volume estimations. If needed, very detailed maps at resolutions down to 0.5m can be generated and viewed within GIS platforms to provide enhanced detail for particular areas such as the loss impact of windstorms.
Forestry Observation
In order to estimate timber volume, sarmap's Forestry Observation product provides timber volume estimates based on semi-empirical models - an approach more sound than traditional models of taking samples in small forest areas and extrapolating them.
